Little bit of Lake Placid

Hello There!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and also that nobody was on the road last night. That rain sure did make the roads slick! While I am unable to give a first person account of the weekend here in Stowe, I can provide some words about the trip that some of our crew made to Whiteface resort in New York.
The Crew in front of the Olympic Scoreboard

As most of you may know, Lake Placid was the host site for the 1932 and 1980 (Year of the Hockey Miracle) Winter Olympic Games. Driving through the town, an Olympic aura certainly still surrounds the main strip as tourists can see the Olympic Logo on just about everything. As a team we were able to see the Nordic jumps that towered over the surrounding landscape, as well as the aerials hill which happened to be in use for a world cup event- so we decided to stop by to watch a round. Ask some of the guys about it, they shot some of the jumps on their iPhones. Each night we enjoyed a delicious meal at one of the many high quality restaurants located in Lake Placid.

The skiing provided some extremely firm snow that was comparable to injected snow as used on the world cup, but the weather from what I understand was very uncommon as we had two straight days in the 20's with little wind. On Saturday our group represented MMSC very well as we had 6 out of 6 racers finish the GS with good times as our crew obtained 4 top-10 medals. Sunday yielded what seemed like even firmer snow conditions as athletes from all areas of the East struggled to set their edges into the boilerplate snow. To make the race more difficult, the majority of the course rested on a steep pitch making gravity a very big factor in the results.

All in all, it was a wonderful weekend, and I wish that our whole group could have been there. If you have not yet visited the Lake Placid area, I would absolutely recommend it to all! We have our home race this weekend at Stowe, I hope to see you all there!

Main Street here we come!

Adios!
