And we resume!

Hi All!

I hope that everybody had a wonderful holiday with their families, hopefully filled with cookies and some great meals!

Tuesday Morning from the top of Slalom Hill
The past two days have been great for the J3 program, with the exception of a few achy joints and a bruised hip. Tuesday began with some early morning gate training on Slalom Hill- it was great to see each of the athletes take some of the things that they had been working on in their freeskiing and use it once they got into a course. Athletes ran the course until it was time to head in for lunch.  After eating, the group went up to the conference room on the 2nd floor of the Club to watch their video runs on the big screen.

Morning run under the gondola
This morning looked a little gloomy as heavy rain had pounded the mountain through the night, but as temperatures steadily dropped throughout the day, snow flakes began to fly... and in a big way! Weather aside, athletes made their way onto the hill for some guided freeskiing over on the Mansfield side of the resort using the high-speed quad and the gondola. After skiing for a little while over on the other side, the group made its way back to the club for a quick snack before heading out to Slalom Hill for training. Due to some soft snow conditions in the morning, coaches from the Men's J1/J2, and Post-Grad program decided to throw salt. (This causes the snow to become more firm, thus creating a better surface for training) The course from the older guys was still in such a good condition, we decided to leave it set and have the J3's run the same course after several slipping runs. Coaches set a series of brushes throughout the course intended to mark the point where athletes should begin to press into the ski, initiating the arc.

Everyone was skiing so well that we decided to leave the course in the snow, go in for a quick lunch, and head back out afterwards for two more runs. Unfortunately we were not prepared for the shift that had occurred in the weather, the wind had picked up so much that the lift would frequently have to stop briefly even though it was still taking skiers to the top.

Hiking for the quick turnaround!

Looking over the Slalom hill knoll... some would call it blustery
If anyone is reading this before heading out skiing tomorrow, Dec. 29th, Please dress warmly and cover up your face well! But I hope to see you all out there!
